Ubuntu Mobile OS vs BlackBerry OS 10 comparison
Operating systems have very long story of how they begun and changes they faced during the time. Companies started with all hardware keys to navigate into the operating system in mobile devices like Nokia, Samsung earlier phones used to be. Then Apple brought touch screen based mobile phones, keeping just one hardware button to access home screen on the device with some added controls like volume, camera and screen lock controls. Navigate in between the operating system by touching, sliding and tapping your fingers on the screen.

Later on Android and other operating systems landed in the race each with its unique feature to show to the world. Here in this article we will discuss two latest operating systems, BlackBerry 10 and Ubuntu for mobiles. They have brought a whole new gesture based interaction with the operating system and we are gonna look at them and compare which one of them is going to have solid grip in the market. Let us check that out.

First thing to notice is that phones running on both operating systems have no physical and touch capacitive button on front the phone to navigate. They are completely gesture based. Starting from BlackBerry OS 10, this is the latest version of the operating system from the company. It is pretty hard to learn all gestures because there are so many gestures for multitasking, closing an application, switching between apps and peeking notifications.
GESTURES TO LEARN: Basically there are 4 main gesture to learn that are seamlessly integrated with the BB OS 10. Quick Swiping UP from the bottom bezel of the screen will allow users to go to home screen or a kind multitasking window where users can switch or  kill active applications being shown on the home screen. Another gesture is that which generally every phone has. Swiping top to bottom from top bezel of the screen will show you quick settings with some quick control. Some of the installed apps can also show option on this screen for quick settings.

Third main gesture offers you great flexibility for watching you BB Hub notifications form any screen or active application. Just swipe Upward from bottom left corner of the screen towards right (a kind of upward- right movement), all your BB HUB notifications can be easily accessed.
Now finally last gesture, swiping left to right OR vice versa, allows scrolling through available apps. It simply means we have to just swipe in any direction to open previously opened apps. No buttons required. Overall usability and performance is great in BB 10 OS and it integrates with the device so well that it can easily make you forget about physical buttons on mobile devices.
Now another Gesture based OS we are gonna talk about is Ubuntu for mobile devices. Briefly, it is more user friendly, easy to use and has many features inherited from android. Although we have Ubuntu for almost every range of device, but on mobile it just looks beautiful.
GESTURES TO LEARN: Top to bottom brings to you the normal notification panel just as in Android but with some extra masala to show. Bring your finger from top of the screen bezel towards down and move it right/ left to directly switch between quick settings. This is one of the best feature of Ubuntu OS.
Left to Right swipe will show you a rectangular window showing your favorite apps with a button to jump to home screen.

Right to left allows to switch between previously opened apps just as in case of BB 10 OS. In this case, one thing to notice is that animations and smoothness while switching apps is fantastic and best we have ever seen on any phone right now.
Bottom to up swipe will show you some extra options for the app you have opened. For example, while in the gallery, swipe upwards and options like edit, share will be shown again with perfect integration with the device.
Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu platform, said in a magazine interview that "it is in a good starting position". We agree with him. It has so many new features that puts it in the OS race in a good position even at this initial stage. At last, both OS are well designed and are just the starting of whole new era of operating systems with no physical key to control and interact with your mobile.
