Market share chart for all operating systemsIn the intense competition between major mobile operating systems, Android has marked another highest point where it has captured 81% of the total market share in 3Q13. We have then iOS at the second position with 12.9% market share which saw some decline as compared to 14.4 % in the 3Q12 (3rd quarter of 2012). But what was most interesting is the percentage increase in market share for Windows Phone, which jumped to 3.6% from 2% last year (2Q12). This means it increased by 156% and that is really amazing but then also seems very insignificant in comparison to top 2 operating systems.

All this data have been collected by International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide mobile phone tracker. It clearly states the increasing dominance of the android as a mobile phone platform where almost every small and big smartphone manufacturer company prefer to go with it, only due to its openness. It is only due to that it grew 50% in just one year, that is devastating for other operating systems.

We we have one more thing that we read in the survey on the IDC website. Both Android and Windows Phone saw biggest growth of all - where the only factor for them is : Price. Android smartphones can be purchased in range starting from 4K to 50K (K denotes thousand) while Windows Phone can be bought if you have just 8K in your pocket. But with iOS platform their price distinguish them from rest of the smartphones. See the graph below that compares the variation of pricing of the smartphones with the duration.

BlackBerry on the very opposite side saw a very steep decline in the market share due to their negligence by majority of user base. BlackBerry kept it focus on a very small area of user community. Android, WIndows Phone and iOS kept the major part of the market under their dominance which also is a strong reason for downfall of the company.
