It happens a lot of time that while we are working on our PC and want to get email updates without leaving the current work. Well Google can provide you your mails and chatting messages right on your desktop without closing or stopping your current application on your PC / Laptop.
Google has developed "Google Talk" application for PC, which allows you to get Gmail stuff right onto your PC with a popup window notification. It does not alter or disturbs your current work, hence you get updates without the need going to browser for checking mails and messages. It also allows to make VOIP calls for free if the user on other side is also on the same application (Google Talk).

One the application is installed after downloading, it will ask for login. Use your Gmail account for which you want to get notifications about. Once the login step is completed, the application will appear in your Notification area like the one shown in the picture above.
Now onwards whenever you receive a mail, it will show it in the popup windows at the bottom right of your screen, no matter which application or software you are using (Except for some games and other full screen software).
Multiple mails are shown one after the another in the same window. You can anytime alter the notification settings by following the steps given below.
Click on the Google Talk Icon --> Go to settings --> Make changes using the opened settings window. It will appear like the picture shown below.
